Lemonodor's detective work triggered by a post from Jack Coleman turned up David Touretzky's SDRAW code. SDRAW helps visualise cons (Lisp linked list cell) structures, and is likely to be a boon when doing manipulations of code (because Lisp code is built from conses).
Aside: I've added an Outboard Brain category for posts which are intended as much as notes to help me find something again in the future as to help propagate ideas. And put this post in it.
