It's been quiet a long time in these parts. Here's something really very silly to break the ice.
Our dichotomy opens the combat!
The silence has been down to the fact that I had so many things I needed to be doing that writing web log posts never felt like a valid use of time. The queue of work is far from gone, but the big item which was blocking everything else, a report, is now out of the way (more on that before long). I've managed to start ticking off small jobs and moving forward with larger ones which have been on hold for far, far too long. Which is a relief.
Some of those jobs relate to FloodRIskNet. FRN was funded for three years up until March this year, and these are the last commitments which I didn't manage to get tied up before the funding ran out. We have a last official network meeting in November, and in September the last paper network newsletter will be published. The plan is to clean up the web site and upgrade the software it runs on, then maintain it as a hub for information about risk, uncertainty, and reliability methods in flood risk management.
Now, before I get back to writing code, I have a month of writing papers scheduled. The above mentioned report is due to be converted into a couple of papers, probably as a pair, probably to go into the Journal of Hydroinformatics.
But first, a nice cup of tea ...
