In the style of SETI@home and Folding@home projects — which farm out little chunks of work on the (kinda pointless) Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence and the (potentially valuable but part of the hugely overhyped and massively overfunded genomic research programme) protein folding research respectively — climateprediction.net is working on a piece of software which people can run to donate unused processor power to the cause of building our understanding of uncertainty in climate prediction.
A far worthier cause, I'd say.
